Collage and Print
An introduction to an expressive way of mark making with print in conjunction with collage.
Participants will use selected images from magazines or other sources to create several collages, they will then work on mark making with water or oil based materials on Perspex plates.
The plates can be used to make monoprints or may be engraved for intaglio printing or a combination of both. The print images will be made over or in combination with the collages.
Day 1, Preparation of collages and Perspex plates.
Day 2, Inking, drawing/painting on plates, and printing and combining with collages.
Materials required
Materials for collage, good quality magazines and any other flat materials (cloth is OK)
Utility cutter (snap-blade knife), cutting mat or thick sheet of scrap cardboard
Scissors for paper
Acrylic paint, primary colours, black and white
Oil paints, primaries, black and white
PVA glue
Large glue stick
Threads and needle (optional)
Perspex plate (1.5mm clear, up to 50 x 50cm) This can be supplied for $8.00
Engraving tools, etching needles or equivalent
Electric or battery engraver if you have one.
Papers
5 sheets butchers’ paper
2 to 3 sheets good, heavy cartridge paper
3 or 4 sheets printmaking paper, 250 to 300gsm (Arches Velin, BFK Rives, Fabriano or Hahnemuhle)
There will be a levy of $5 to cover the cost of consumables
